More InformationCross-linkable compound- and masterbatch systems for high-performance applications.
Post-process crosslinking, by means of electron beam radiation, allows for the targeted optimisation of specific material properties, to optimise the performance of the material for its application. The quality and effectiveness of the cross-linking characteristics is ensured using enhanced material additives, incorporated in the XINOMER XRX products.
The effect of cross-linking on improvement of material properties, as well at the ability of the material to form cross-linking bonds differs related to the polymeric material used. In general, amorphous areas must be present in the material to achieve optimal results.
Optimal results can be achieved with the among others the following polymers:
XINOMER XRX compounds are designed together with you to be optimised for your existing process, and will generally be based on the carrier material you have selected for your product.
XINOMER XRX masterbatches can be added to your existing material during your extrusion- or injection moulding process, and can also be based on your existing material.
In both cases, further process optimisation might be possible by adding processing additives directly to your compound or masterbatch. Changes to your process are not to be expected, as no activity of the crosslinking is initiated at this stage.
Therefore, also production waste can still be recycled as a thermoplastic material.
After your product is finished and in final shape, the crosslinking process can be activated by exposing the product to controlled electron-beam radiation. Due to the high-energy process, this is generally a very short time process, that takes place in an external shielded facility. Several third-party providers are available to support with this process. The product is then ready for use in demanding applications.
Several properties can be improved by applying XINOMER XRX products.
Temperature resistance, chemical resistance and mechanical strength
By actively cross-linking the polymer, its structure behaviour from thermoplastic to thermoset. This directly improves the mechanical properties, especially at elevated temperatures.
Elastomeric properties
As the cross-linking of the material prevents ductile deformation of the material, the elastic and compression set properties improve.
Abrasion and durability
With the improvement of the mechanical properties, material integrity will be held longer, which improves the resistance against abrasion.
Flame-retardant properties
Flame retardancy tests observe and judge the materials behaviour in multiple ways, including spread of burning substance through dripping. By cross-linking the material, it no longer exhibits a melting temperature, and dripping processes are inhibited.
The field of polymers has seen many developments, to an extend that for almost every possible application, there is a material solution. However, these solutions often come at a price.
This might be processability, availability, or in many cases literally costs. In many cases, the ‘next stage’ solution might be a bridge too far.
XINOMER XRX products offer the chance to level up the properties of a material, to achieve performance that otherwise would need an over-dimensioned solution.
A modified standard polymer might replace an engineering plastic, or a cross-linked engineering plastic can be used where high-performance plastics would be the only alternative.
XINOMER XRX products enable you to level-up your material, to achieve heat-resistant and durability properties that are normally only found in rubbers, thermosets and high-performance plastics
